Tool Collector's Database

To assist tool collector's in tracking their collections, I offer the following tool database. This database requires a copy of Microsoft's Access 97 (or later) to run.

All forms, table, reports, and code contained within this database is copyrighted to Union Hill Antique Tools. This database is provided as freeware to fellow tool collectors in the interests of promoting tool collecting. Use for any other purpose is not allowed without written permission from Union Hill Antique Tools. You may also not resell this database for your own profit. Contact Steve Johnson at tooltimer@msn.com for more information.

This database lets you enter your tools in a nice, easy-to-use form. It tracks alot of data about your tools if you choose to enter it, but you can skip any entries you don't care about. The database tracks the name of the tool, model, type, year of manufacture, condition, purchase price, purchase date, vendor, etc. It also includes some handy reports so you can print out a list of your whole collection (once it is entered).

To use this database with versions of Access before Access 2000, follow these steps:

  1. Download the database, which is compressed into a self-extracting ZIP file named TOOLS.ZIP. This ZIP file contains two other files, one is the database named tools. mdb and the other is a readme.txt file containing instructions for using the database.
  2. Click on TOOLS.ZIP once downloaded to decompress the database into a folder of your choosing.
  3. Go to the folder you choose and open the tools.mdb file in Microsoft Access, and when the Database window is shown go to the Forms tab.
    • Use the Tool Entry form to add new tools to the database.
    • Use the Want List form to create a want list.
    • Use the Instructions for the Tool Entry Form to get help with field names on the Tool Entry Form.
I hope you find it useful!
