Barnes Small Saw
This saw was the Barnes companies first attempt at addressing the needs of the amateur market. It was a scroll saw like the #7, but only about three-fourths the size of the #7, and was cursed with a terrible design. The operator sat on a separate chair, and the machine tended to move away from you as you treadled. There was no provision for fixing the scroll saw to the floor. It was produced from 1874 to 1876 only. The #1 in 1876 was made to replace this saw. (in this picture the wooden spring is missing).
