PNTC Scholarships

The Pacific Northwest Tool Collectors offers a scholarship program to qualified applicants. You can apply using the Microsoft Word application form below.

Each year the Pacific Northwest Tool Collectors will award a minimum of two $1500 scholarship to applicants wishing to continue their education beyond high school. The intent is to award scholarships to students pursuing education and training programs that lead to careers that make use of traditional tools. Examples of careers that use traditional tools include: Automotive Mechanic, Boat builder, Cabinet Maker, Machinists, Pattern Maker, Model Maker, Welder etc. The following considerations will be used in awarding scholarships:

  1. The applicant’s documentation of the NEED for scholarship assistance in continuing their education.
  2. The merit of the applicant's achievements to date.
  3. Submission of COMPLETE application packets postmarked before June 1.(3 copies requred to be considered.)
  4. Payment of scholarship funds are good for one year following award of the scholarship and will be made to the institution the student attends.
  5. Scholarship winners may re-apply for additional scholarships support the next calendar year.
  6. Family members of PNTC members will be given additional consideration in scoring applicants.
  7. Applications will be scored on the following criteria:
    • Statement of need
    • Achievements accomplishments
    • Clarity of career and educational plan and how it relates to the use of traditional tools
    • Work and volunteer experience
    • Family member of current PNTC member
    • Letters of recommendation
  8. At least one scholarship may be awarded to pursuit of a Technical degree (2 year degree) or occupational certification program. Scholarships may be awarded in pursuit of Associates or Bachelors Degree Program.

    Can an applicant who receives the scholarship reapply to receive a second scholarship the next year? Yes
    Who may apply? Any student 17 or older who plans to continue their education after high school including students who have completed one or more years of college.
    Can students working on an occupational certification program that doesn’t lead to an associates or high degree apply? Yes, post high school training options that lead to industry or professional certification will be considered.
    May students purchase tools, books and learning materials with Scholarship funds? Yes, funds may be used for tools, lab fees and other instructional costs.
    How is payment made for the scholarship? Payment is made directly to the college or training provider, upon verification of enrollment.
    How much does a scholarship winner receiver once the conditions of the scholarship have been met? $1500
    Is there a limit on the letters of recommendations an applicant can submit? No
    How long does the scholarship winner have to claim the funds? One year from the award date.
    What are types of programs that are considered to use traditional tools? Some examples of careers that use traditional tools include, Automotive technology, Diesel Technology, Boat building Cabinet Making, Machining Technology, Culinary Arts, Pattern Making, Model Making, Millwrighting, Welding, Heating and Cooling Technology. Normally other trades that use traditional Tools are formal apprenticeships which are paid for by the Employer.
    Can the student use the scholarship to purchase tools, books, learning materials? Yes, except for the purchase of a computer.
    Can someone who didn’t win the scholarship re-apply the next year? Yes
